As you begin your journey as a creator, one of the things you’ll have to consider is what type of content you’ll be focusing on. Some creators mix it up while others choose to specialize in a certain category. If you’re still on the fence about what you can do as a streamer, here are some tips to get you started.

Tip 1: Take Inspiration from Other Content Creators’ Streams

The brightest ideas sometimes come out of nowhere. This is true especially for content creators like yourself. A lot of streamers started out as viewers who got inspired by their favorite creators and decided to start streaming themselves. In order to get your creative juices flowing, start by going around and watching other streams so that you’ll have a good idea about what’s possible and what type of content resonates with you.

As you start out, you may be tempted to just focus on gaming streams since it’s what a lot of people are doing. However, the creator universe is bigger than you think. You’ll only start realizing that once you go around and watch others. By visualizing yourself streaming the same type of content they do–whether it be the latest games, IRL, doing commissioned art works, podcasting, or others–you will be able to get a sense of the type of content you can forsee yourself streaming for a significant period of time.

Tip 2: Consider What You’re Great At

Not all streamers are built the same way. Some are talented when it comes to music, while others are amazing at engaging with big crowds. Streamers who specialize in gaming streams also branch out into different categories: some prefer to play online with their friends or audience members, while others just play solo games while interacting with their community. On the other hand, you might be a someone with a great sense of humor and you can inject comedy into streams too. You might also be great at tinkering with tech and opt to do live reviews and tutorials while engaging with your community through some Q&A. This is another invitation for you to look within yourself and figure out what you’re good at and what you love doing.just play solo games while interacting with their community. As a content creator, you have free rein over what you want to showcase in your streams and how you’ll engage with your audience. You can either stick to something safe and fun or venture out into niche content that not a lot of streamers are doing.

Tip 3: Take Suggestions from Your Audience

Being a content creator means exposing yourself to a wide audience. As you continue your journey, you’ll encounter folks who will react positively or negatively to your content. They may be audience members, friends, or even fellow creators that you’ll meet along the way. It’s important to pay attention to those comments and suggestions, because they can help you produce better content in the future. Some of the feedback may even become sources of inspiration for you to venture out into other types of streams that you normally don’t do. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should follow what everyone says. It’s still important to listen to yourself and figure out which among the feedback you gathered will be helpful for you.

Content planning may be challenging, but using these 3 tips, everything will be easier for you. Always remember that there’s no “best content type”. What’s important is that you’re having fun along the way.
