Skill Expansion and Continuous Learning Tips for Content Creators
3 mins read
As a content creator, it’s not enough that you’re doing the same things constantly. While it is true that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, it can also hinder you from unleashing your true potential and growing beyond what you’ve already accomplished. You have to be able to venture out into different stream formats so that your audience won’t get tired of you.
Here are some tips for you to be able to explore and learn, so that you can stay relevant.
1. Learn From Other Content Creators
Along the way, you’ll get a chance to meet other creators like yourself, some of whom may have grown their community immensely. Make sure to grab that chance to network with them and learn about their own strategies for growth. You may be able to get a lot of inspiration from what they do once you get to know them as well. Aside from that, you should also watch other streams and interact with the creators as well. Streaming in itself is an interaction-heavy medium, so utilize it and learn from those you encounter along the way.
2. Listen to Feedback
Feedback is valuable in any industry. It’s especially useful for content creators, who constantly exposes themselves to the public eye and builds communities with total internet strangers. In order to boost your career further, pay attention to how your fanbase responds to what you do. Are there things that they appreciate more? Do they have certain requests for games they want to see? Do they react strongly to certain activities that you do with them? All these things can help you innovate and improve as a creator.
In order to maximize this, some creators put out polls and question forms for their community. You can do this as well so that you’ll have an idea of what the people want to see in your future streams. If their suggestions work for you as well, then go ahead!
3. Don’t be Afraid to Experiment
Sometimes, the best ideas are discovered by accident. Golden moments during streams happen unplanned, and those can lead to more fun content for you to produce. If there’s something you wanna try out, go ahead! Try to see how your fanbase will respond to your new ideas. After all, people don’t normally want to see the same thing over and over again. If you’re unsure, you can even ask them directly about what they think of your experimental content idea.
If you’ve been streaming for a long time, you’ll most likely have a pulse of what kind of community you’ve built, so it’ll be easier to experiment. It helps immensely if you make an effort to connect with your fanbase so that you’ll also be able to gain their trust and create a safe space for yourself to venture out into new content formats.
4. Allow Yourself to be Coached
While you may already have a good sense of what you’re doing as a content creator–you know what content you like, you know what your viewers enjoy–you can still benefit from receiving input from someone who has worked with other streamers apart from yourself. They have seen what works for others and will be able to provide your with insights as to what else might work for you, too. In the same way that professional athletes, despite being good at what they do already, still employ the help of coaches to further push them to perform better, content creation coaches can share with you some strategies which can help you grow even more. They will be able to point out to you what you’re doing well and what else needs some more polishing. They can help you stay updated as well on trends and new developments in the industry which you might have missed. Together, you can set targets which you can actively work towards as it is always better to do things with a goal in mind, and they can also help keep you in check whenever they see that you might be deviating from your path.
Don’t stagnate; innovate! Take some time to plan out different content formats in the future. Use what you learned from those around you in order to elevate your streams and grow your fanbase.
